World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2026: Creating Awareness, Promoting Prevention, Inspiring Community Action

Shri Veer Pulikeshi Rural Ayurvedic Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Badami, under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully observed World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day on 30th January 2026 at 03:00 PM in the Vagbhat Auditorium. The awareness programme was organized by the Department of Swasthavritta Evum Yoga with the objective of educating students, faculty, and healthcare professionals about neglected tropical diseases, their impact on public health, preventive strategies, and the collective responsibility of healthcare providers in achieving disease elimination. The programme reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, public health awareness, and social responsibility through meaningful academic initiatives.

The programme was conducted under the esteemed leadership of Dr. B. M. Mulkipatil, Principal, who presided over the event. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. S. B. Nidagundi, Academic Dean, whose encouragement highlighted the importance of public health education in medical institutions. The event was meticulously organized by the Department of Swasthavritta Evum Yoga under the guidance of Dr. Mangalavva Patil, Professor & Head of the Department, along with Dr. Daneshwari Gunari, Associate Professor, and Dr. Arya Anil, Assistant Professor. Their dedicated efforts ensured the successful execution of the programme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from teaching faculty, non-teaching staff, interns, and undergraduate students.

The awareness session focused on the significance of World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about diseases that continue to affect millions of people, particularly in underserved and economically challenged communities. The resource persons discussed the causes, transmission, clinical manifestations, preventive measures, and control strategies for various neglected tropical diseases. Special emphasis was laid on the importance of environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, vector control, early diagnosis, timely treatment, community participation, and health education in reducing the burden of these diseases. The programme also highlighted the valuable role of Ayurveda in promoting preventive healthcare, strengthening immunity, adopting healthy lifestyles, and supporting community-based health initiatives alongside modern public health measures.
