Blood Donation Camp Organized on the Occasion of World Voluntary Blood Donor's Day
In a noble initiative to promote voluntary blood donation and create awareness about the importance of saving lives through blood donation, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Shri Veer Pulikeshi Rural Ayurvedic Medical College, Hospital and Research Center (SVPRAMC), Badami, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and the Department of Shalya Tantra, successfully organized a Blood Donation Camp on 18 June 2026 at the college hospital premises. The programme was conducted as part of the observance of World Voluntary Blood Donor’s Day, embracing the global theme “One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Lives,” which emphasizes compassion, humanity, and the life-saving value of voluntary blood donation.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, postgraduate scholars, undergraduate students, hospital staff, non-teaching staff, volunteers, and members of the local community. The camp aimed to encourage healthy individuals to become regular voluntary blood donors while spreading awareness about the continuous need for safe blood in emergency care, surgeries, maternal health, cancer treatment, trauma care, and various life-saving medical procedures.
The programme was graced by the Head of the Blood Bank as the Chief Guest, who highlighted the critical importance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening healthcare services. During the inaugural address, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of SVPRAMC in organizing such humanitarian initiatives and encouraged students and the public to make blood donation a regular social responsibility. The speaker emphasized that a single unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives and that regular voluntary donors form the backbone of an efficient healthcare system. The programme was presided over by Dr. Basavaraj M. Mulkipatil, Principal, who emphasized that healthcare professionals have a moral responsibility to inspire society towards acts of humanity such as blood donation. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the IQAC, NSS Unit, Department of Shalya Tantra, and the organizing committee for conducting the camp successfully
The event was conducted in the gracious presence of distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Girish N. Danappagoudar, Professor & Head, Dr. S. B. Nidagundi, Academic Dean, Dr. Somashekhar Biradar, Hospital Nodal Officer, Dr. Amareshappa M., Associate Professor & Head, Department of Shalya Tantra and NSS Programme Officer, and Dr. Basavaraj J., Assistant Professor, Department of Shalya Tantra. Their encouragement and active participation motivated the volunteers and donors throughout the programme.
A qualified medical team carried out the donor registration, health screening, haemoglobin testing, blood pressure examination, and other mandatory pre-donation assessments to ensure that all donations were conducted safely according to standard blood bank protocols. Every donor was provided with appropriate refreshments, post-donation care, and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their selfless contribution.
The blood donation camp received an overwhelming response, reflecting the spirit of compassion, service, and social commitment among the students and staff of the institution. The organizers also conducted awareness sessions highlighting the misconceptions related to blood donation, eligibility criteria, health benefits of regular donation, and the importance of maintaining adequate blood reserves for medical emergencies.
Blood Cannot Be Manufactured – It Can Only Be Donated.
Through this meaningful initiative, SVPRAMC reaffirmed its commitment to community health, public service, and humanitarian values. The Blood Donation Camp not only strengthened awareness regarding voluntary blood donation but also inspired participants to become regular donors and ambassadors for this life-saving cause.
The management of SVPVV Samstha, the Principal, IQAC, NSS Unit, Department of Shalya Tantra, faculty members, staff, students, and all voluntary blood donors deserve appreciation for making the programme a grand success. Their collective efforts demonstrated that even a single act of kindness can make a profound difference in saving precious human lives and building a healthier society.
